Animal Welfare Organizations Serving Wake County

Choose an organization for which you would like to foster. Keep in mind that some of these organizations can bring the animal(s) to your home even if they may not be located in your city. For detailed description of guidelines, click here.

Best Friend Pet Adoption


Location: Cary, NC

Other procedures/guidelines? Dog(s) must be kept indoor and have access to fenced yard or exercise area. Smaller dogs may be fostered in an apartment situation. Cat(s) must be inside only.

C.A.R.E. For Animals


Location: Raleigh, NC

Foster-parent training orientation required? Written foster care guidelines are provided, as well as individual verbal info. about the specific pets needs.

Adopters visit foster homes? optional
Other procedures/guidelines? Dogs are generally to reside primarily inside with the family, and to receive house-breaking training and manners, in order to prepare it to become a cherished family pet. Cats must be inside only.

Carolina Animal Rescue and Adoption

Other procedures/guidelines? Animals must be kept indoors as part of the family. A fence or run is required. Crate training is highly recommended.
Puppies may not be crated for more than 6 continuous hours. Certain breeds and temperaments require prior experience and no children under 10 (this
does not included every animal - just those we may deem more "at risk" breeds).

Carolina Basset Hound Rescue

Pet food & medications provided by organization? Medication, heartworm, flea control, and vet bills are paid by organization. Food is foster parents responsibility.
Minimum fostering commitment? 2 weeks

Other procedures/guidelines? Foster homes must have a home visit before approval. Dog(s) must be kept indoors with outdoor privileges for exercise and bathroom duties (on a hand held leash while outside). All personal pets must be up-to-date on their vaccinations and be on heartworm prevention.

Carolina Boxer Rescue

Doberman Rescue of North Carolina

Other procedures/guidelines? Dog(s) must be kenneled in a secure, fenced yard or inside the house during the day. Dog(s) will sleep inside the house. Dog(s) will be kept on a lead, in the house, or in a fenced yard on the grounds of the foster home at all times.

Feral Cat Friends


Location: Garner, NC

: cats and kittens, and dogs
Pet food/litter/medications provided by organization? Medical treatment for animals are provided by organization. Foster parents are asked to provide food and litter unless a donation is received.
Minimum fostering commitment? 4 weeks

Adopters visit foster homes? optional
Other procedures/guidelines? Foster homes must have an area in their home to quarantine new fosters until two sets of vaccines have been administered to protect foster animals as well as foster parent's personal pets. All cats must be kept inside only. Foster homes must be willing to abide by Feral Cat Friends guidelines and the guidance of designated veterinarians.

Independent Animal Rescue

Other procedures/guidelines? Foster home screening includes home visit. 12 hour limit on time dog will be confined to pen. Cats to be kept inside only.

North Carolina Rottweiler Rescue

Foster-parent transport animals to adoption events? If the foster home is located within 50-100 miles of the event.

Other procedures/guidelines? Foster homes may have a kennel area to keep the fosters in but only after the area has been approved by a board member. No foster dog is permitted to be chained. We prefer inside foster homes but know that they are very hard to come by especially for large breed dogs. Crate can be provided. Foster Manual is supplied along with ongoing support thru organization.

Snowflake Animal Rescue

Adopters visit foster homes? optional
Other procedures/guidelines? All fosters must have the ability to provide fosters with isolation from personal pets. While recommended, fosters do not always have to kept in isolation, but there must be facility to do so if necessary. All personal pets must be vaccinated. Cats must be fostered strictly indoors. Dogs must be fostered with access to indoor facility. All dogs must be fenced or leash walked depending on animal. At no time is a dog to be "tied out" or allowed to run free.

Southern Siberian Rescue

Pet food & medications provided by organization? All medical care, ID tags and collars are provided by organization. Foster homes provide food, love, socialization and basic obedience.

Foster-parent transport animals to adoption events? Yes, but we recognize that you can't always attend every event.
Foster-parent transport animals to vet? yes
Adopters visit foster homes? no
Other procedures/guidelines? Home check for all potential foster homes are required. All foster dogs are kept inside as a member of the family so they may learn proper house manners and socialization. We do not require a fenced in area but need to know the foster dog will be properly exercised.
